On August 8, 2022, Wang Tao, Dean of the International School of Materials Science and Engineering, and Liu Gang, Deputy Dean of the School of Materials, went to Foshan, Guangdong, to participate in the 1st Summit Forum on Development of New Materials Industry for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and National Double First-class Materials College Deans’ Summit.

The forum and summit were hosted by Foshan Science and Technology Bureau, Party Committee and District Government at Nanhai District, and jointly organized by the Organization Department of the Party Committee at Nanhai District, Science and Technology Bureau of Nanhai District, and Foshan (South China) Institute of New Materials. With the theme on “Materials Empowering Industrial Transformation, Innovation Leading Intellectual Upgrade”, and with a goal to intensively integrate the innovation chain with the industrial chain, nearly 40 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, deans of National Double First-class Materials Colleges, as well as experts and scholars in the field of new materials gathered in the South China Sea, focusing on the topics from research and development of both strategic and cutting-edge new materials to first-class materials disciplines and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area's new materials industry to talents training and achievements transforming in the discipline of materials.

At the meeting, 10 deans and experts of the National Double First-class Colleges of Materials presented academic reports or made speeches on discipline construction. Dean Wang Tao introduced our discipline construction on materials on behalf of WUT and offered suggestions on how to serve the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area through the transformation of scientific and technological achievements.
